Will I be good enough for home schooling?

Demetrius Coaster: There are also schools that will provide books, computers, and a certified teacher so if you do get stuck you will have some kind of help. The state pays for this because they consider it a public school just at home.We love it

Janita Tetlow: Homework is what the kids didn't do in the classroom. They know it. It's just more of the same endless workbook pages. Frustrate anybody. Homeschooling isn't like that. I think you need to learn more about homeschooling first, then you won't feel so unsure. good places to start:http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.comhomeedmag.comYou will not have to stand over him with a whip and a chair. Once the kids get the concept, they are happy to learn. Before he went to school, he loved to learn, right? Just learned. He learned to dress himself, eat, play, walk and talk all without compulsory education. School takes that desire for natural learning away from a child. Can you imagine a classroom of 25 kids all lear! ning whatever they please? Of course not, they have to take that away and replace it with groupthink. You have to power to give him back his love of learning. Learning can happen anywhere the child is comfortable. And with mom and dad sounds pretty comfortable to me....Show more

Karl Jantzen: Yes, you can make it work. But let me tell you what not to do, you have to do the homework and find out what I mean. Do not do school at home. Let the world be your classroom, field trips, forests, parks, museums, documentaries, the library, cooking, painting, art, lessons, sports, 4H, Scouts, I mean there is a world out there that has nothing to do with textbooks. This will be muchWe do very little seat work here Math is the main thing I insist on, but some do more of a practical math approach that is life experience based. This approach will be much better for an ADD type child. My last words of advice are shut off the TV except for documentaries, history channel and ! the like and limit computer time severely, I see home schooled! kids wasting time by the gallons where they could be reading deeply.Last but not least, wear out your library card....Show more

Vita Moodie: Yes I do, and if/while I have youngsters I desire to house tuition them a minimum of till secondary tuition degree. I am a professional main instructor, presently doing provide educating, and I were to too many faculties wherein the behaviour of the minority wrecks the schooling of the bulk. I do not desire my youngsters to need to waste elements of the tuition day ready patiently at the carpet at the same time the trainer attempts to get the naughty little one to act and concentrate - that is the truth of what occurs in plenty of school rooms nowadays. Also, whilst you coach 30 youngsters, the entire magnificence hobbies can under no circumstances be pitched on the degree that all the kids are operating at. Some kids will uncover the teachings too effortless, and a few will uncover them too rough. When you're most effective edu! cating your possess little one, or at so much a handful of youngsters, you're going to realize precisely what degree they're operating at, they usually may not waste any time having to hear matters which might be too rough for them to comprehend, or that they've already mastered. Plus, I simply consider that I would make 'tuition' plenty extra fulfilling and invaluable for my kids than an genuine tuition would. We are living proper by way of a seashore and a park, so would do all forms of paintings, observations, and so on, there, plus in my the city there are countless different parks brief bus rides away, as good as two museums within the the city centre, and plenty of extra museums just a instruct experience away. We have a library 10 mins stroll away, and I realize plenty of golf equipment function in my subject for youngsters, comparable to Cubs, Brownies, Sunday School, dance categories, physical activities golf equipment, and so on, so they would not need to fail to ! see touch with different kids. I consider at secondary degree I could n! eed to learn up on distinctive matters, however I consider I could be competent to, but when my little one desired to wait a secondary tuition then I could take delivery of their resolution....Show more

Idell Syed: From one impatient mom to another, you absolutely can homeschool your son. Just reading what you've written about your concerns for you son and yourself, shows that you can. You and your husband know him better than anyone. How is a teacher who has him for 5 hours a week (since they have different teachers for each subject), who has 15 - 25 other students to work with, going to be able to grab your child like you and your husband can. You are the most qualified to teach your child. The great thing is...any specific subject that you don't feel you can teach, you can learn! You can learn it and teach it to your child. As long as you stay a day or two ahead, you'll do great. Plus, if your son asks a question that you don't know the answer to, then you ! have a wonderful opportunity to model the research and learning for him. What a wonderful gift to teach him HOW to learn, not just that he can come to you for all of the answers. As far as the office environment, that's great. Not only will he be around you and your husband, but he'll be able to see what it means to "work in the real world". You will be modeling adult life for your son. You're raising him to be a man, not a high school kid, anyway.Anyway, I started homeschooling with a very timid heart and now, I know I will not do anything else. It's been more than 5 years and I'm still not perfect, but I also haven't ruined my kids, either. lol...Show more

Shaun Rapkowicz: I have little more to contribute to the comments already here, since I am merely a 14-year-old who's been homeschooled all her life. However, I will say this: DO NOT revoke TV. If you're going to homeschool your child, it's extremely important that he have some connection to the outside worl! d, lest he turn into an introverted hermit with no social skills. I do ! agree, though, that books are 1,000 times more important. But my mom has homeschooled all four of her kids, and she's never done anything about limiting our screen time. And you know what? We all prefer reading anyway. And, as a side note, letting him learn the things he's interested in learning will help with his restlessness. He's interested in mythology? Use that as the core for history and english. Cooking? Turn it into a science lesson. The less you use textbooks, the more enjoyable and memorable the lesson will be for both of you....Show more

Toby Women: Wow! You people are all amazing. Thank you so much for the feed back. I am starting my research on the best programs and am looking as possibly starting this for the grade 7 year in September 2010. Or, I might let him do the first term of Grade 7 and if it isn't working, then start the home schooling.
