Denna Prudente: Roses are ! much easier to care for than folks realize. Yes, you bet they can grow in part sun and shade. A lot of times you can simply check a particular rose's needs on their tag, the bag wrapped around their roots, or just online. I'll list a site or two down below alos.My general care for roses includes fertilizing them at the beginning of blooming season (right about now) and then continuing to feed them throughout the summer until they're done blooming. I remove spent flowers to help the plant spend its energies on more blooms rather than a bloom that's already done its thing. I usually just get Miracle-Gro for roses and it does really well.Trimming roses... I prune mine in January or February. You can take them down pretty low, but you don't have to. I move slowly and use a hand pruner, slicing diagonally just above a growth bud. I also make sure there's not a lot of canes at the ground level -- it's like pruning a tree, you don't want energy being diverted into too many parts o! f the plant. You want that energy going into making the plant ! healthy and blooming.In general, you just prune once a year, dead head when you remember, don't spray water directly onto the plant, but rather water at its roots, use a soap and water solution for aphids and you'll pretty much have some gorgeous flowers.
